Ordering Helmets (2017): Details of 2017 Helmet Subsidy Scheme…

Clubs/Schools wishing to order helmets must complete the attached
application form. All helmet orders must be accompanied by a cheque
made payable to Limerick GAA Coaching & Games.

All orders must be sent on the attached form only.  Orders will not be
accepted on the phone or by a text message.

ORDER FORM: Click here >  helmet-request-form-2017

There must also be a minimum order of at least 3 helmets.

Any order that is not accompanied by a cheque will not be processed until
the cheque has been received.

Completed forms and cheques can be returned to the County Games Manager
Noel Hartigan at the following address: Limerick GAA, Coaching & Games, Aras Mumhan,
Newcastle, Castletroy, Limerick.

Mycro will supply helmets in club/school colours and will put the
club/school name on the back of the helmet if desired. They will also
deliver the helmets to the delivery address on the application form. Please
indicate you preferences clearly on the application form ensuring that
club/school names and addresses for delivery are correct.

Mycro can now put your club crest on the back of the helmet instead of the
clubs name if you so wish. The crest has to be clear and works best on
lighter coloured helmets.  If you wish to add this to your helmets please
email me your club crest and I will forward it to Mycro and they will
inform me as to whether your crest is suitable to put on the helmet.

For 2017 Mycro will give a free Sliotar (Size 4 or 5 only) with every
helmet purchased. Please indicate your preference on the application form.

Clubs are reminded to make contact with their local school and offer to
supplement their stocks of helmets.

If you have any enquiries please contact Noel Hartigan (087-9581568)

Munster GAA Primary Game offer a preview of stars of the future

Championship fever hits Limerick  this weekend as Limerick and Tipperary cross swords for the fourth year in a row. The Limerick senior hurlers hope to take the next step to regaining the Munster title when they take on the Premier County in Semple Stadium on Sunday. For 22 boys and girls from schools the length and breadth of the county, this weekend offers an opportunity to wear their county colours on Big Match Day as they take part in the Munster GAA Primary  Game. The Primary Games are an integral part of the Munster Championship season as children from across the province get to play for their respective counties at half time in all senior matches.

Two games, one each for boys and girls, with eleven players per team, will take place at the break in the big match at the famed Thurles venue. Twenty two children from Limerick also played at half -time of the Limerick v Clare football clash in the Gaelic Grounds on May 29th.

“The Munster GAA Primary Game is a long- standing fixture in the province, with many leading stars of the games today having made their inter-county bow in the primary school game, among them Limerick hurlers Seamus Hickey, Ronan Lynch, Barry Nash and Declan Hannon and camogie stars Niamh Mulcahy and Caoimhe Costello. By Sunday evening, 44 Limerick boys and girls will have played in their county colours on Big Match Day in 2016. Hopefully, another day out on July 10th lies ahead! ” says Joe Lyons of Ballybrown National School who is coordinator of the Primary  Game.

“The emphasis in Go Games is on participation, enjoyment and developing skill,” said Jerry O Sullivan, Chairman of the Munster Council.  “Children who get to play in these games get a magical experience in their ‘field of dreams’ in front of huge crowds.  All you have to do is be there on the day and see the excitement in their eyes in the moments before they get to step out onto the pitch.  Participation in the games creates a memory that lasts them a life-time.”

Mike O Donoghue, Peig O Donoghue, Nora Ryan And Brother Dormer celebrate Mike’s incredible contribution to Cumann na mBunscol

What is Cumann na mBunscol?

Cumann na mBunscolCumann na mBunscol is the voluntary organisation of primary school teachers on the island of Ireland who promote our native games of camogie, hurling, football, rounders, handball and athletics. There is also a unit of Cumann na mBunscol in London and Birmingham is looking to become affiliated along with some other areas in the UK.

Cumann na mBunscol is structured along the same lines as the GAA. In the GAA the basic unit is the local club. In Cumann na mBunscol the basic unit is the local national school. The next layer in both organisations is the county committee followed by the provincial committee and finally the national committee. Each county runs its own competitions. Provinces also run some events such as the Primary Game in Munster. On All Ireland semi-final and final days there are two representative games played at half time, one a boys’ game and one a girls’ game. These exhibition matches are known as the GAA/INTO Mini Sevens. Each year 240 children get to play in Croke Park on semi-final and final days. All counties are represented in these games.

Cumann na mBunscol is an inclusive organisation that welcomes all children regardless or creed, ethnic background or gender. Cumann na mBunscol prides itself in being an inclusive organisation and promotes participation and fair play.

The Green and White Magazine was launched in autumn, 1996.  From the outset, the focus of the magazine has been on Cumann na mBunscol activities in Limerick City and County.  There are three issues each year – one each school term.  All 5,200 copies of issue no. 42 (published in June 2010) were snapped up before the end of June. Issue no. 43 is currently in production and will be on sale after Halloween.  Copies of the magazine will be available from schools, GAA clubs and a number of shops around the County, including Eason’s Bookstore, O’Connell St., Limerick.  To read past editions of the magazine on-line,just click the link at the bottom of this page.
